4 *New* Tips to Beat the Rainy Day Blues

It’s been a long winter. Spring is around the corner but another month with limited sun may feel like too long. Is your mood and energy levels at an all time low? Is your client struggling? Here are a few tips to blast the rainy day blues.

Aromatherapy: Essential oils are a great way to give your mood a boost! Whether you add a few drops of essential oil to your bath or use a special lotion, think about a scent that makes you smile. There are many essential oils known for their stimulating and invigorating properties including grapefruit, lemon, tea tree & peppermint. And they are often less than $10 for a bottle.

Stick to a Schedule: Getting enough rest if you are affected by the rainy season can be difficult. That challenge makes getting up in the morning even harder! Maintaining a regular schedule improves sleep, which helps with other symptoms too.

Keep a Gratitude Journal: Take a few minutes every day to write down three things you are grateful for in your life. As the days go on, you will be surprised how you accumulate quite a list. Writing down your thoughts can have a positive effect on your mood.

Take a 15 minute Walk or Break Outside: If the weather permits, outdoor exercise is optimal. Take a super short walk during the middle of the day and take advantage of as much sunlight as possible. The combination of fresh air and movement will also help boost your mood. If being outside isn’t an option, walk through a mall or even take some time to stretch on the floor at your home near a window. Even 15 minutes of fresh air can change your outlook.
